Frequently asked questions
How do I change my Chromebook/G Suite password?
Sign into your My Account page at https://myaccount.google.com/intro. In the "Sign-in & security" section, select Signing in to Google -- Password. Type your current password and then your new password. Note:
Why did we choose Chromebooks for the 1:1 initiative at SGS, CFA and CHS?
Some factors that contributed to the decision were cost, ability to manage devices, and our desire for students in these grade levels to not only have a keyboard but cloud storage in preparation for college and career readiness.
Will students be allowed to take the Chromebooks home?
Yes, as long as a parent has signed the Acceptable Use Policy and paid the $25 insurance premium, students will be allowed to use the Chromebooks at home as well as school.
What is G Suite?
G Suite (formerly GAFE) is simply Google Apps for Education. For us, it means that each student and teacher has a Google account with unlimited storage. Using Google Classroom, teachers and students can share files digitally without the need for printing.
Can my child access the data stored in his/her G Suite account on our home computer?
Yes. Students can log into their G Suite accounts on any web-accessible device.
How do we keep the screen clean?
Clean screens with a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use chemicals such as household cleaner. Closed covers should protect the device from scratches when not in use. Parents may elect to purchase a screen protector and/or a protective case or sleeve for their student's device.
Is it possible to print from the Chromebook?
Although it is possible to print from the Chromebook, we strongly encourage students and teachers to take advantage of sharing documents digitally.
What happens if a student forgets a Chromebook at home?
The district does not provide extra devices for students who forget theirs. Classroom sets of textbooks are available for use during the school day.
Can parents receive a G Suite Account?
Not at this time. You may, however, create a personal Google account at https://accounts.google.com/SignUp
Will my child be able to access his/her G Suite account on a smart phone?
Yes, it will work, but it is up to the individual user to configure that. The district will not be providing documentation or support at this time.
